Duplicate files create numerous issues on both personal computers and cloud storage platforms. They not only reduce efficiency but also hinder productivity, as users must sift through a massive clutter to find their desired files. Fortunately, tools like Wise Duplicate Finder and other alternatives come to the rescue. However, some users may find it a bit challenging to get started with the software. So, let’s take a detailed look at how you can use Wise Duplicate Finder to remove duplicate files.
The first step is to download and launch Wise Duplicate Finder. Upon launching, you will see a user-friendly interface with several options, including Compare Mode and Filter. The Compare Mode has three options: Match name and size, Partial match, and Exact match.
Keep in mind that each option will yield different results and scanning times. Additionally, you will notice both minimum and maximum size settings set to -1, meaning there is no size limit for scanned files. Similarly, you need to select Duplicate Files, as the default file type is All Files.
The next step is to locate the folder or drive that contains duplicate files. Simply click the Add Folder option and check the boxes next to the drives or folders you want to scan. Once selected, hit the Scan button, and the tool will begin scanning for duplicate files.
Once the scan is complete, the tool will present a list of duplicate files. You can either select individual files to remove or choose to keep them. Keep in mind that Wise Duplicate Finder moves deleted files to the Recycle Bin by default.
If you want to permanently delete these files, you must empty the Recycle Bin. Additionally, the tool offers an option to backup files before deletion, which can be accessed in the Options tab.
If the number of duplicate files is large, the scanning and deletion process may take longer.
One of the standout features of Wise Duplicate Finder is its multi-language support, available in 36 languages, including Chinese, Arabic, and Greek. Additionally, it comes with an Exclusion feature, which prevents users from accidentally deleting important files.
Clicking the Exclusion option opens a new window where you can specify folders or drives that the tool should not scan or delete files from. Furthermore, if you accidentally delete a file, you can use the Restore option to recover it.
All of these features are available for free in the basic version of Wise Duplicate Finder. However, if you want access to more advanced features, you can upgrade to the Pro version.
Another excellent alternative to Wise Duplicate Finder is Clone Files Checker. It is equally easy to use but offers a wider range of features. Clone Files Checker not only scans and removes duplicate files from local drives and folders but also supports cloud storage platforms.
Additionally, it can scan regular music files, including iTunes music, to help users remove duplicate songs. It can also scan videos, images, documents, and more.
As shown in the screenshot below, Clone Files Checker scans the selected drive(s) within seconds and presents duplicates in a list format, displaying file type, size, and other key details.
You can either delete duplicates individually or select all at once. Finally, click the Selection Action option to choose between permanently deleting files or moving them to a separate folder.
