DupeGuru vs Clone Files Checker

This is where software programs like DupeGuru and Clone Files Checker come into play. Today we will be reviewing both of these programs on how they perform in scanning and deleting duplicates.

 

DupeGuru

DupeGuru is not only open-source but also a GUI cross-platform program as well. It has a huge following across the globe as it’s compatibility with operating systems such as Windows, Mac and Linux allows users an unbelievable level of flexibility. 

DupeGuru provides 3 modes that differ in terms of the feature offer.

Each mode features various scan types including such as content, filename, EXIF Timestamp and more. DupeGuru’s certain scans utilize smart algorithms to help the user locate duplicate files on a computer.

 

Interface

DupeGuru’s Interface is as user friendly as it could get.

Upon launching the app, you will come across 3 sections, consisting of three scan modes, namely Standard, Music, and Picture. Also, you can opt to scan several folders at a time and as you can see in the image above, the software will provide handy customization options for the scan.

 

Preferences

You can choose settings of your own choice from the Preferences menu in the status bar. This is where you can set the scan filter intensity. If for instance, the user sets hardness level at 100, DupeGuru will only look for exact files. Moreover, the user also has the option of word weighting, selecting the font size and setting the scan to ignore files that are smaller in size as compared to the custom minimum size.

 

View and Select Duplicates

Once you have launched the scan, DupeGuru will quickly bring up duplicate results in the form of a list. The list will consist of groups that include original files as well as duplicates. You can save the results of the scan if you want.

Additionally, you can organize the results of the scan by file type, size, match level, modification etc.

You can use three different types of modes to view the scan results.

Details

The details mode looks into the detail of the selected files and helps you compare them.

Dupes Only

The dupes only mode will only show the duplicates (and not the original files).

Delta

The Delta mode shows the difference between the numerical values of both original and duplicate files.

 

Clone Files Checker

Clone Files Checker is a program that has been developed by Sorcim Technologies. This program is able to detect and delete duplicate files such as videos, audios, documents and many other types. It is available for both Mac and Windows.

 

Interface

The user interface of Clone Files Checker is simple and straightforward.

As you can see in the image above, Clone Files Checker offers both computer and cloud scanning.

Additionally, Clone Files Checker offers three scan modes:

To start the scan process, you simply have to add a drive/ folder and choose which type of files will be searched for in the scan. Clones File Checker also offers an optional filter for its users to set a size limit on files so that the filtration process could be narrowed down further.

 

View and Select Duplicate Files

Once you have launched the scan, Clone Files Checker will come up with the results very soon. By using the Export Results option at the bottom, you can save the scan result as well. Moreover, duplicate files are divided into groups that include files of every type.

The user is offered two options, Fix Wizard and Review & Fix.

The Fix Wizard option allows the user to process duplicates without viewing them, whereas the Review & Fix option allows a thorough review of each file before proceeding with the final action.

Once you have decided which type of files will be retained, click Select Action and select if CFC should delete the duplicates or back them up to a folder.
